Active Start

Active Start and Fundamentals are Special Olympics programs for young athletes, 2 to 6 years-old and 7 to 14 years-old, respectively. Red Deer Children’s Adapted Sport Association has built in additional programming for children older than 14 years-old and up to 17 years-old, as well as adapted many of the sport activities to include children with physical disability as well as cognitive disabilities.

Registration is required just for numbers, but there is no charge for registration. Please complete the Google form to register.

Participants work on beginning movements and sports activities like jumping, running, throwing and catching a ball, kicking (in the Active Start program) and move up to sports skills like hitting a baseball, throwing a basketball in the hoop or throwing a bowling ball at the pins (in the Fundamentals program) to prepare kids for further sport participation.

Red Deer Children's Adapted Sport Association is pleased to have a session of the Active Start program available in Red Deer. The program will run, free of charge, at Red Deer College main campus in the main gym on Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 am Active Start ( 8 sessions) and 10:15 to 11am (5 sessions). This is a parent-involvement class, and parents or aides are expected to remain with their children to help them and learn how to continue with the activities at home.
