Position:           Facility and Program Assistant

Status:              $15/hour for up to 37.5 hours per week from July 2 through August 23, 2019

Our team at Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre is growing and changing and we want you to join us!

Exciting opportunity for a post-secondary student interested in working at a Centre that provides hope to children with special needs and their families.  This position will offer a diverse range of opportunities. 

The successful candidate will be involved in:

  • Assisting summer drop-in Park IT Program Facilitator with planning, and executing activities
  • Facility maintenance and improvement tasks such as painting, construction assistance, cleaning & outdoor grounds keeping
  • Gather, pack and clean materials for weekly parent drop-in program
  • Administrative duties such as inventory, database entry and research, etc.
  • Support as needed to the programs and services at Aspire 

This position requires a highly organized, self-starting individual who can manage multiple tasks, work collaboratively with professional staff and be engaging to families.

These are contributor requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs agreement. Applicant must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
  • be legally entitles to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
  • NOT be an immediate family member of Aspire, the employer, or any officer or directore

Prior painting, cleaning and/or facility maintenance experience is preferable, and a valid driver’s license. Knowledge of and/or some understanding of children with special needs is an asset.

Position: Registered Occupational Therapist
Reports to: Supervisors of the Early Access to Supportive Education (EASE) Preschool and Individualized Services (IS)
Location: Red Deer, AB
Status: Full Time (1.0 FTE) Maternity Leave Coverage Position (March 2019 for 18 months)

Our team at Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre is growing and changing and we want you to join us! Aspire’s mission is to provide hope to children with special needs, the families who love them and the communities that care for them. Aspire has an exciting opportunity for someone interested in working in both our specialized preschool and our assessment/diagnostic/consultative program.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play and interact with children in EASE’s play-based environment alongside an experienced team of teachers, therapists and child development facilitators. This professional will provide assessment and intervention services to the EASE children in consultation with the staff. As well, the Occupational Therapist will consult to the children’s families and community partners.

In the IS program, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide a variety of assessment, diagnostic and intervention services to children and youth alongside Psychologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Physical Therapists.

  • Christmas break and most of summer off (10 month program paid over 12 months)

 Qualifications:

  • Must be a Registered Occupational Therapist in Alberta or be eligible for registration (if out of province).
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.
  • Experience working with children required, experience working with children with special needs is an asset.
  • Training in ASD assessment and diagnosis is a benefit. 

Start Date: March 2019 (as soon as a qualified candidate is found)
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience.
